Tips for using the Écopiège® Collar

Selection of the Écopiège® Collar and its accessories

1. Count the number of affected trees: this allows you to determine the number of traps to order. Only trees infected by pure white and silky cocoons should be counted.

2. Measure the circumference of the trunk at approximately 2 m height for each infested tree. The trap should be installed at a height where it is inaccessible to children and domestic animals.

3. Count the number of nests or pure white cocoons per tree: from 1 to 5, the infestation level is medium, between 5 and 10 the infestation level is strong and more than 20, the infestation is very strong.

To help you in the selection of your Écopiège® collar and the necessary accessories, fill in the following table with the circumference of your tree and the number of buds (nests) present and click on CALCULATE

2 - Installation and withdrawal period

From November in the Atlantic area and December or January for the rest of England.

It is also possible to place them just before the pupae processions, since according to the areas and seasonality, these can vary strongly.

Leave them in place one month after the last pupae processions and remove them:

- end of May

The sacks will be burned or wrapped in a thick, sturdy garbage bag and thrown away with household waste.

3 - Installation of the Écopiège® collar

Delivered as a kit, the trap is composed of:

  • A collar, a foam strip, a deflector (collar), a strap (strap) with a buckle
  • A downpipe
  • A biological putty
  • A collector/destructor bag and its fastening system.

The installation of the Écopiège® collar is simple and takes about 20 minutes:

  •  Put the 2 parts of the collar together and insert the tube.
  • Present the collar on the tree and fix it thanks to its double spring-loaded hook.
  • Fill the interstices of the trunk thanks to the putty.
  • Tie the strip under the collar using its quick tie.
  • Fill the bag with soil (see technical data sheet for quantity) and fix it on the strip thanks to the hooks.

4 - Safety advice

The processionary caterpillar is a particularly stinging insect and can cause very dangerous allergic reactions. For these reasons, it is important to follow a few precautionary measures before applying the Écopiège® collar:

  • Gloves must be worn.
  • Overalls or clothing that covers the whole body well.
  • Goggles must be worn.
  • A mask.
  • You must not stand in the wind during your procedure or the burn.
  • Do not remove your clothes in the wind.
  • Rinse affected parts with plenty of water, without rubbing.
  • Wash clothes at more than 60°.

Before any intervention, it is necessary to irrigate in order to crush the residual hairs likely to become airborne.
In case of contact and strong reaction, call 112 or go to the emergency room.
