Principle of functioning

The Écopiège® collar is the only system that is totally ecological and approved for its effectiveness against pine processionary caterpillars.

Designed to capture a large number of caterpillars as they descend from the tree, it captures them without any contact with the caterpillar's usual stinging projections. The Écopiège® collar does not use any chemical product, its operation is purely mechanical and uses a phase of the insect's life, the procession. Indeed, the caterpillars descend from the tree in procession towards the end of winter to bury themselves and begin to transform into butterflies. They are hindered by the Écopiège® collar as they descend into the collecting bag, and believing they have reached the ground, they bury themselves in the bag filled with soil to begin the metamorphosis. It is then enough to remove the bag at the beginning of the summer and destroy it to eliminate the caterpillars.

The installation of the Écopiège® collar is simple, quick and does not require any tools. Its success is ensured by an ecological putty that allows the smallest gap between the trunk and the collar to be filled.

The Écopiège® collar has been tested twice by the I.N.R.A. in Avignon and validated with more than 97% success in the tests. Its design has been patented twice in 2009. It has received several awards, attesting to the recognition of its efficacy by professional bodies:
